Scott Hartford-Magana, Owner

Boston native, Scott graduated from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst in 1990 with a Bachelors in Hotel, Restaurant and Travel Administration. Upon graduation, Scott knowing he wanted to travel moved to Phoenix, Arizona to work for Chevy’s Fresh Mex in the company’s early stages of growth and saw that company purchased from a private family to Pepsi Cola. Soon after, Scott was opening locations across the United States in Washington D.C., Maryland, Virginia and Illinois. Making a career move, Scott found himself working for Canyon Cafe out of Dallas, Texas. There he would troubleshoot under performing locations in several markets in Saint Louis, Missouri and Atlanta, Georgia. Brew Moon Restaurant and Microbrewery, based in his home state of Massachusetts would bring him back to the Boston area. There, Scott lead the company in one of it’s challenging locations that would become a flagship for the company. In late 1990’s Scott was appointed the Human Resource lead in the company’s sale to Rock Bottom Restaurant and Brewery in Louisville, Colorado. That was his first real foray into the Human Resource side of the industry and sparked his interest. Once the merger was complete, it was time for a new venture that brought him to create his own concept and menu with then CEO of Brew Moon, Fred Rash. Phatt Boys—Seafood, BBQ and Chops was a two unit concept featuring the freshest and most flavorful chef inspired dishes and cocktails. His five years as owner had proven the best training for all things operations especially Human Resources and Accounting. After the sale of his restaurants, Scott returned back to the Washington D.C. area as a Multi-Unit General Manager at Baltimore-Washington International Airport. There he opened five restaurants from full service, Zona Mexicana, DuClaw Brewery to three quick service outlets with sales over $16 million in sales. In 2012, Scott decided he wanted to head west to California. A state he worked in 16 years earlier and wanted to return. That is when he began to work for Wolfgang Puck Fine Dining Group. Starting in Las Vegas, Nevada then landing at Los Angeles’s LA Live and Staples Center. As General Manager of Wolfgang Puck’s Bar and Grill at LA Live, Scott brought double digit sales increases and growth earning a promotion as a Regional Director for Wolfgang Puck Worldwide. As Regional Director, Scott opened international locations for the company in the UAE in Dubai and domestic locations in the United States. In 2017, Scott made the full transition into Human Resources as the Director of Training for Bottega Louie in Los Angeles. Bottega Louie is California’s highest grossing restaurant (non-steak house) and the 18th highest in the United States. As word of a second location in West Hollywood were released, Scott was promoted to Vice President of Human Resources for not only Bottega Louie but also their sister companies BHIC, LLC and BULLI Development. In 2019, Scott moved to Palm Springs, California where he began working with Two Bunch Palms Resort and Spa as Human Resource Director and where he founded HM Hospitality Consultants. Realizing that small and independent business in the state have a major disadvantage in having dedicated Human Resource partner. In 2022, HM Service Group became the corporation behind HM Hospitality Consultants and will operate using the HM Hospitality Consultants name while offering flexibility in it’s overall Services Offered to clients.
